The timeless setting of the solitaire ring has maximum visibility due to the diamond’s
prongs. The prong
is the little metal pieces that hold the diamond in place. The prong is (usually) found
on the corners
of the diamond, as those places are the strongest points to hold the diamond. Prongs are
also the
holders to let the light pass through the diamond to maximize the natural shimmer of the
center
stone.
The four-cornered prongs are the standard setting and allow more light exposure. While
the four prong
setting is most standard you can have the four prong in a less standard way by having it
placed
diagonally. Normally for smaller carat stones like a 2 carat diamond, having more prongs
is not
recommended. Six or eight will make the diamond appear smaller.
