1990: South Africa Diamond Mines Will Increase 28% of Potential Sales
September 1997
Evaluations of 1,303 carats recovered from the initial bulk sampling at a mine in Lesotho in southern Africa project a 300,000 carat annual yield, according to the company which owns and operates the mine – Toronto-based Messina Diamond Corporation.
This would represent a 600% increase in production at the mine. In a statement, Messina put the gem content of the sampling average at 28% with potential sales values reaching up to $1,400 per carat.
