Claims that certain synthetic diamonds manufactured by Apollo can escape detection were disputed by a scientist from the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, according to a report in the South African Citizen.
Centre research director Yves Kerremans said screening equipment is available that can detect natural stones from synthetic.
“We have invested a great deal in research on synthetics and continue to expand our know-how,” Kerremans said. “The identification of synthetic diamonds poses no problem.”
Kerremans said he looked forward to examining any recently produced synthetics that are claimed to be undetectable.
