The year 2018 is filled with great findings and this 46-carat pink diamond makes it even better. The pink rough diamond was dug up by Lucapa in Angola from its Lulo project in central west Africa. From the project, the rough diamond is the biggest-ever gem-quality of colored diamond found.
This pink rough diamond eclipses the previous findings of
- a 43-carat yellow diamond in January this year
- a 39-carat pink diamond found in September 2016
Lucapa shares that its 46-carat colored diamond discovery came along with other “large specials” as Lucapa calls them. In the meantime, Lucapa is working on finding the primary hard-rock source or sources that will have exceptional sized diamonds and quality.
Largest cut pink diamond
The largest cut pink diamond is The Raj Pink. This diamond was up for sale in November at auction house Sotheby’s with a pre-estimate to be worth $20 million USD to $30 million USD. However, the sale of the 37.3 carats pink gem failed.
