The Jewelry event will unveil the 3.37 carat pinkish purple diamond “Purple Orchid”.
During the Jewelry & Gem event, the fancy color diamond “Purple Orchid” will be shown for the first time. The fancy color loose diamond has been graded as fancy intense pinkish purple with a VS2 diamond clarity. The 3.37 carat diamond has an asking price of $4 million, putting the diamond carat price nearly at $1.2 million.
The loose diamond is said to originate from an unnamed South African mine, of the very few in the world where fancy color purple diamonds can be found. The loose diamond was purchased as a rough of more than 4 carat and it took a team of skilled diamond cutters four months to polish the rough diamond into the perfect fancy color diamond it is today.
The 3.37 carat purple diamond is truly a once-in-a-lifetime find. There is nothing more unique on the diamond market today than fancy color diamonds, and this purple diamond is more than a cut above the rest. There are very, very few loose diamonds with purple as the main color, which is what makes the Purple Orchid diamond so rare. It is believed that purple diamonds are formed through the combination of crystal lattice distortion and high amounts of hydrogen – similar to the formation of pink diamonds, a fancy color diamond that is a popular choice for engagement rings.
