Are Engagement Rings Obligatory for Both Partners?

wedding ring engagement ring diamond jewelry

In this case, it's a matter of personal preference. Both partners should be allowed to wear engagement rings, as engagement rings are no longer seen as a symbol of a man's "possession." Both partners will wear promise rings as a symbol of their commitment to each other.

Engagement rings are now used to show that you're engaged or "off the market" in today's society. This means that if the bride-to-be is the only one wearing an engagement ring in the time leading up to the wedding, no one else will be able to see it. Since the bride-to-be will be wearing jewelry to symbolize her love and commitment, why not the groom-to-be?

Throughout South America, it is customary for both partners to wear an engagement ring as a symbol of commitment. Only now are other countries beginning to follow suit.

Is An Engagement ring Worn On The Left Or Right Hand?

There is no right answer to this question. Any finger on either hand can be accessorized with an engagement ring. However, there are regional customs about which hand to wear it on.

What About the Groom's Ring?

Traditional engagement and wedding rings are typically worn on the left hand in most countries in Western Europe and the majority of Asian countries, including Australia and New Zealand. In the U.S., it's customary to wear them on the right hand.

However, in Austria, Norway, Denmark, Spain, Russia, Portugal, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, and other European and South American countries, it is customary to wear them on the right hand.

How Much Do Men Spend On Their Own Wedding Bands?

Who pays for an engagement ring after the man proposes to his girlfriend or wife and they say yes, is a tricky question.

Traditionally, a man will purchase an engagement ring for his girlfriend before he proposes to her. Some couples choose their engagement ring after the proposal has taken place. Both of these scenarios leave the man wondering if he will have to pay for his own ring, or if the partner is expected to pay for it.

In the end, the couple will have to decide this for themselves because there isn't a straightforward answer. The decision will be based on the couple's financial situation, so don't hold your breath waiting for a return of the favor. If you're going to be together for the rest of your life, you should be able to work this out!!
