The popularity of the oval cut diamond is well-earned and has not waned. Compared to other fancy diamonds, this elongated diamond shape provides more finger coverage and has a longer length measurement. The oval cut diamond has a slimming effect on the finger despite the fact that it covers a large portion of the finger.

The Oval Cut Diamond Engagement Ring

When shopping for an oval diamond engagement ring, cut, ratio, color, and clarity are the most important aspects to keep in mind. These four factors can have a significant impact on the overall look of your oval diamond center stone.

Cut & Ratio

The precise dimensions of the diamond, the depth, the polish quality, and the arrangement of diamond facets all fall under the category of diamond cut. The fancy shape of an oval diamond prevents the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) from issuing a report on its quality. The cut of an oval diamond engagement ring must be examined in person in order to pick a high-quality center diamond.

Elegantly rounded edges give the diamond an oval shape with rounded ends that are not sharp or pointed. The depth percentage of a well-cut oval diamond should be between 60 and 65 percent. Face-up, an oval cut diamond with a depth percentage greater than 65% will make your stone appear smaller than its quoted cart size..

Due to its weight rather than its dimensions, an oval cut diamond with a moderate depth percentage appears to be larger than a high-depth-percentage oval cut. With an average length of 10mm, a 2 carat oval diamond is 20% longer than other fancy shapes from the top to the bottom of your finger at Lauren B.

As the name suggests, this ratio measures how long a diamond is in relation to how wide it is. 1.4:1 to 1.6:1 oval cut diamonds are more popular with our clients because they provide more finger coverage and a narrower look. When the ratio of an oval diamond is reduced, a wider oval shape is revealed, which is also a lovely option.

The “Bow Tie Effect”

When referring to the shadow effect that runs down the middle of an oval cut diamond, the term “bow tie effect” is used. This is the result of the diamond cutting process stretching the facets.

Oval diamonds with a higher ratio and a moderate depth percentage will have less of a prominent shadow, but the severity of the bow tie effect will vary from diamond to diamond.

Clarity & Color

Other fancy cut diamond shapes have a smaller surface area than an oval diamond. Consequently, the color of oval diamonds will be more visible. Customers prefer oval-cut diamonds with a color grade of “H” or higher, despite the fact that diamond color is a matter of personal preference. Choosing an oval diamond with a “I” or “J” color grade enhances the diamond’s warmth when paired with a rose gold or yellow gold ring.

It is less noticeable in oval diamonds because of their brilliant-cut faceting. In general, if the stone is eye-clean (no visible inclusions to the naked eye) and does not have a milky or hazy appearance, you can sacrifice clarity for color grade.

For oval diamonds, most of our customers prefer a D-F color range and a VS clarity. For your oval-cut diamond engagement ring, the best GIA color and clarity grade depends on personal preference, as it does for all diamonds. Whatever your preference, we have a wide range of options for you to choose from, from warm stones in the J-K-L range to cool stones in the D or E range.

This fancy-shaped diamond center stone will look stunning on either your own or your partner’s ring finger, regardless of the color or clarity grade you select.

Attractive Center Stones: Oval Cut Diamond

Choosing an oval diamond as the center stone of an engagement ring is a beautiful option. The finger is slimmed and narrowed by the elongated shape, which also provides a lot of coverage. An oval diamond makes a delicate yet mesmerizing center stone when it is paired with the brilliant cut facets of this fancy shape.

The difficult task of selecting the perfect center stone can be simplified thanks to the assistance of highly qualified diamond experts. Choosing an oval diamond for your engagement ring can be a daunting task, but our design consultants at Diamond Registry are here to help you every step of the way. They can help you compare different depth percentages of oval diamonds, as well as help you choose the perfect color and clarity grade for your budget.

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
