The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will be held from April 14 to 18, 2022, according to an email sent to exhibitors by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). Previous dates for the event had been set for March 3 through 7.
It cited a local outbreak and the consequent tightening of containment measures in Hong Kong as the reason for its decision to close its doors. It has been decided that the fairs will now run concurrently with the council’s Spring Shopping Fest, which will feature a variety of lifestyle products.
Because of the coronavirus, major jewelry and diamond shows in Hong Kong have been canceled. These shows rely on buyers from mainland China and the rest of the world. Transborder travel between China and Hong Kong has been restricted since the outbreak of the pandemic began in 2009.
“The postponement of the two shows to mid-April covering the Easter holiday enables us to capture more local consumers or even the mainland buyers if the boundary could be reopened,” the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) stated.
