It’s understandable that purchasing a diamond for a significant event like an engagement, anniversary, or vow renewal can be overwhelming. A 6 carat diamond is ideal for symbolizing a romantic partnership due to its eye-catching size and the profound symbolism of the number six. Six represents family, harmony, home, and nurturing in numerology. The number six represents the heart. An anniversary ring or engagement ring can represent a promise made at the start of a marriage.

An intimidating task, but I’m here to help you understand the 3 C’s (Cut, Color, and Clarity) of a 6 carat diamond. Depending on the cut, there are ways to save money without sacrificing the beauty and majesty of a large diamond of this size. I’ll explain each option so you can make an informed choice.

Cuts

Modern women who prefer a timeless look will love the oval cut diamonds. Oval cut diamonds have a wider spread and more sparkle than round diamonds, and their elongated shape looks great on all women’s hands.

Inclusions and flaws are more visible in larger diamonds, indicating lower clarity. However, the oval’s brilliant faceting structure allows for clarity compromise. The stone’s flaws and inclusions determine its price (different types of clarity yield different appearances). We suggest VS1/VS2 clarity for an oval cut. Consult an expert to determine if the flaws and inclusions in a lower clarity will be visible with this cut.

Also, a large oval requires a more severe bow tie. Unappealing dark bow-tie shape on the stone’s center bottom. A bow tie’s cut, color, and clarity can be varied to make it virtually undetectable. Our Beverly Hills diamond sourcing team of ethical and highly regarded diamond sourcers can help you minimize any flaws, inclusions, or bowties in your diamond.

Larger stones need to be lighter and whiter, especially 6-carat ovals. Ovals need to be colorless or near-colorless (D, E, F) because they show more color than other shapes (G, H). Colored stones are more valuable.

Diamond Registry uses ‘Up a Color’ settings to make near colorless diamonds appear colorless in a yellow gold setting.

Radiant Cuts

Radiant cuts are designed to sparkle. The diamonds in this ring shine like disco balls and steal the show. In total, the Radiant cut has 12 more facets than her sisters combined. The radiant cut’s scintillation and shimmer reflect light and fire.

They are usually cut in a 1:15 to 1:2 ratio on a long open table. A diamond’s table is flat. The lustrous sparkle increases with table size. Also, if you are colorless (D, E, or F) or near-colorless (I, J, or K), the diamond’s center will be more visible (G, H). The 70 facets of a radiant cut diamond (VS1 to SI1) can hide most inclusions. The radiant cut pairs well with other shapes like bullets, trapezoids, or baguettes in solitaire and three-stone rings.

Emerald Cuts

The Emerald cut is ideal for a woman who enjoys looking retro. The emerald cut is also known as “the Honest Cut” in the diamond industry due to the hall of mirrors effect it creates. Choose an emerald-cut diamond with a clarity of VS1/2 or VVS1/2. An emerald cut will cost you the most, but it is priceless.

Emerald Cuts hide color better than pears, ovals, or cushions, so a G will appear as an E. Because yellow gold enhances a stone’s white color, you can use an Emerald Cut in a yellow gold setting and then change the stone’s color.

When looking for an emerald cut, it’s all about finding the best value. Diamond Registry has extensive experience in locating the best diamonds at the best prices.

Round Brilliant Cuts

With these dazzling Round Brilliant Cuts, you will be the center of attention immediately.

The Triple Excellence Cut Grade rating is the most important factor in selecting a round brilliant cut. To achieve this level of radiance, only round brilliant cuts are allowed. Round brilliant cuts refract the most rainbow light.

Unlike ovals and cushions, round brilliant cuts refract white light into a rainbow of colors. In other words, a H or I is completely obscured. If you’re paying for the Triple Excellence Cut Grade, a F or G will do just fine. Because of the lustrous sparkle, you don’t have to be as strict about clarity. We advise keeping things clear between VS1 and VS2.

Cushion Cuts

Cushion-cut diamonds gained popularity in 2019 and have remained popular ever since. Elegantes with a sense of whimsy will love this cut.

Cushion cuts are square or long and unique. Measure the cushion cut’s ratio, weight distribution, and color. Find out whether your partner prefers square or elongated cushion cuts (if this ring is a surprise, try to sneak a peek at their Pinterest boards or take them into a jewelry store and take note of what they say they like).

Cushion cuts appear smaller than other cuts due to the stone’s weight being concentrated at the cut’s bottom. A cushion cut’s millimeter dimensions should be checked. Instead of weight, look at the stone’s shape to get a better idea of how it will look on your hand.

Remember that a 1:1 ratio is square, a 1:15 ratio is elongated, and a 1:2 ratio is rectangular. If your partner’s ring size is 6.8 to 8, choose a diamond that covers more of her finger. A 6 carat diamond’s color will be obvious, so choose F, G, or H. Except if you choose a yellow gold setting. Please contact us to see our ‘Up a Color’ settings.

Pear & Marquise Cuts

Pears and marquises are ideal for the woman who seeks out the unusual, likes to break the mold, and wants to make a fashion statement. The marquise and pear shapes are the most popular diamond shapes.

The pear and marquise cuts are the most difficult to find, as no two cuts are alike, and only one good cut in 100 is found. Not too wide, not too narrow, not too pointed, not too strong a bow-tie.

A Pear or Marquise cut can hide inclusions better than other shapes. Keep the color to a F or G. “Up a Color” allows you to select I, I, and even J colors.

6 Carat Diamond Ring Price

The cost of a 6 carat diamond varies greatly. Fluorescence, certification, demand/relative rarity, and character can all add tens of thousands of dollars to the price.

Nissan, David and his team were extremely accommodating, understanding and patient with our purchase. They took the upmost care to find the best solution for our needs and went above and beyond normal ‘customer service’ standards. I have absolutely no qualms recommending their products and services. Both were absolutely flawless. I will continue to sing them praises and will most definitely purchase from them again in the future. Thank you again!

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
