If you’ve ever been to a diamond shop, you know that there is a plethora of options. This can cause confusion and make it difficult to choose the best stone for your needs, even when you’re with an expert. It doesn’t help that the keystone of the industry — cut and brilliance — are terms that many people don’t understand, and the advertising has subsequently become increasingly misleading. The concept is simple enough — the more brightness, or sparkle, a diamond has, the more valuable it is; but much like marketing campaigns, single terms can omit information that is necessary to make a sound purchase decision. That’s why I prefer to use clarity , color , and cut when selecting my stones, because they describe all three vital attributes at once.

Section: Don’t Just Focus On Getting The Biggest Stone!

Yes, bigger means more expensive, but there’s nothing wrong with going with something smaller so long as it fits her style and budget. If she loves diamonds but you can only afford a half-carat diamond ring at first, don’t let that stop you from buying one she’ll love!

The size of a diamond is only one factor in determining its quality. Other factors include cut, color and clarity. The cut of a diamond is determined by the shape of its facets; the color refers to the amount of tint applied to the surface of the diamond; and clarity refers to how many inclusions are present in its structure.

Three Things To Focus On When Shopping For A Diamond Are The Clarity, Color And Cut

Three things to focus on when shopping for a diamond are the clarity, color and cut. Clarity refers to how clear or transparent a diamond is. The more transparent, the more valuable it is. Color refers to whether there are any inclusions (blemishes) in the stone that can be seen by the naked eye. In general, it’s best to avoid colored diamonds because they’re less valuable than white ones. Cut refers to how well-proportioned and symmetrical a stone is; this affects its brilliance and sparkle.

The best way to maximize value when buying a diamond is to choose one that has high clarity, low color and excellent cut.

Color Matters

In diamonds, color is graded on a scale from D to Z, with D being the whitest and Z being the most yellow or brown. The higher the grade, the less color there will be in your diamond. So when buying an engagement ring, it’s best to get as close to a D as possible without going above it. This way you won’t have to worry about your diamond losing its sparkle over time. If you really want an even whiter diamond than what your budget allows for, consider getting a second or third opinion from another jeweler before making any decisions.

Focus On The Clarity Of The Diamond

A clearer diamond will shine brighter than an imperfect one. The brilliance and fire of a diamond are determined by its cut and proportions; neither of these factors is affected by size alone. So focus on factors other than size when choosing a diamond for an engagement ring or other special occasion gift.

Look beyond carat weight as well as diameter when choosing a diamond and instead focus on clarity grade. This tells you how much internal blemishing there is inside each stone and is a good indicator of how much light will pass through it once set into jewelry.

Don’t Underestimate The Importance Of Cut

The cut refers to how well a diamond has been polished and shaped before it was set in an engagement ring or jewelry piece. When diamonds are cut poorly, they tend to lose their brilliance, sparkle and fire. A well-cut diamond will have a high-quality polish and reflect light from different angles. It also has sharp edges and corners that give off more sparkle than rounded surfaces would offer.

A Diamond Can Appear Much Larger If It Has High Clarity, Is Well-Cut, And High In Color

Whether you are a man shopping for an engagement ring, or a woman wondering how to make the best purchase for yourself, I hope that you’ll remember my article and research the different facets of a diamond’s cut. The final look of the diamond is often not what a customer expects when they first see it. It may be better to spend more money on a higher quality diamond that has higher clarity, is well-cut, and high in color. You will likely save money and have a happier marriage if you do.

Nissan, David and his team were extremely accommodating, understanding and patient with our purchase. They took the upmost care to find the best solution for our needs and went above and beyond normal ‘customer service’ standards. I have absolutely no qualms recommending their products and services. Both were absolutely flawless. I will continue to sing them praises and will most definitely purchase from them again in the future. Thank you again!

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
