Even if you’ve found the perfect ring, you’ll still need to know how to order it. Following the advice below will ensure that you don’t ruin the surprise by asking them outright, so don’t do it.
Making The Measurements
Choosing the ring’s size can be one of the most difficult aspects of preparing for an engagement. It’s understandable that you want the proposal to be perfect, but it’s a lot harder than you might think! It’s possible to do a few things…
An Inconspicuous Examination
Find out the ring size by doing some detective work.
Why not ask their friends and family for help instead of keeping it a secret? If your loved one has previously shopped for jewelry with their parents or friends, it’s possible they remember the size of their finger. Alternatively, if their hands are similar in size to a sibling’s, you can make an educated guess.
Alternatively, if they don’t usually wear a ring, could you borrow one from them? It’s possible to get an accurate ring size measurement from a jeweler if it is a ring worn on their fourth finger. Taking the ring to a jeweler and having it traced is an option if you don’t think you can get away with keeping it that long.
Intuitive Sizing Tool
The interactive size guide provided by Diamond Registry can help you determine which lettered ring you should purchase if your partner removes their jewelry prior to taking a bath or shower.
Make sure that your page scaling settings are set to ‘none’ before printing our guide so that the sizing is correct. In order to get the correct diameter for your ring, place it over one or more circles and measure its diameter to the circle’s diameter. The larger of the two circles should be used if the ring size is in between sizes.
Using Your Intuition
The best course of action is often to follow your instincts. It’s likely that if you look at ring sizes, you’ll be able to make an educated guess about the size of your significant other. Consider the size of your fingers in relation to their ring finger, and see if any of yours are comparable. Not all of us know our partners as well as we think we do!
Typical Ring Dimensions
There is no harm in going with the most popular size, if that’s what you’re looking for.
This is a ring size ‘M’ for females. This is a 6.25 in US and Canadian sizing, and has a diameter of 16.7 mm. It’s possible that your partner could be a size J, which is 4.75 on the US and Canada chart and has an inside diameter of 15.5 millimeters. Larger fingers may have a diameter of about 18.3mm, which would put them at an 8.25 in US or Canadian sizing. Visit our ring size guide page for a complete size guide, including measurements from other countries.
Don’t worry if the ring you choose doesn’t fit. You won’t have to pay anything extra to have your engagement ring replaced with one that’s exactly right for you and your other half. Our bespoke design service allows you to design your own ring from scratch if you haven’t yet made up your mind.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
