Let us expose you to the mystique and allure of an opal engagement ring. Opals are a stunning alternative to diamonds for the non-traditional bride who does not desire a diamond.

WHAT IS AN OPAL?

Opals are made up of small silica spheres that range from 3 to 10% water. Allow opals to show off their famous color play, which sets them apart from other gemstones. These gems are called “precious opals.” Only 5% of all opals achieve this requirement. The rest of the stones are called “ordinary opals.” Common opals are less popular than jewelry stones, despite their stunning colors.

Precious opals have multi-colored flashes and stunning body colors. Some even have descriptive names like harlequin, fern leaf, peacock, and rolling fire. These opals appear airy and unearthly. Opals are believed to be divine in many cultures’ mythology.

BOUGHT AN OPAL RING: IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Choose a rubbing-over (bezel) setting that suits you. Rub-over settings for opal engagement rings are essential to safeguard and secure your opal. A thin gold bezel protects and secures the stone’s edge. Crown settings are less secure, less protective, and wear down over time.

Boulder opal is tougher. The natural ironstone backing of Queensland boulder opal makes it more durable than other opals. The color of Boulder opal makes it ideal for an opal engagement ring. Boulder opals are the toughest, although black, crystal, and white opals also work. Boulder opals’ ‘free’ shape allows designers more creative latitude.

Select a low cabochon-cut stone (i.e., a dome on top). Your stone’s top will be less likely to be damaged if it has a flat or low cabochon.

AFTERCARE FOR OPAL ENGAGEMENT RINGS

Beginner’s guide on caring for and cleaning opals Lastly, keep in mind that synthesized opals are usually more strong. Opals are fragile jewels, so treat your ring with care. Always have the ring cleaned by a jeweler who knows how to treat opals with care.

We advise you to handle your opal jewelry with attention and care so it can be passed down as an heirloom. Take them rock climbing but never submerge them in water (The hard way was learned by one of our clients.)

If you choose wisely and handle them with respect, opals may make stunning engagement rings. For opal engagement rings, many of our clients have asked for them, so drop us an email with your concept and we’ll get started right away.

The size and type of stone you choose will affect the price. Contact us if you’d like to discuss customizing an opal engagement ring.

Nissan, David and his team were extremely accommodating, understanding and patient with our purchase. They took the upmost care to find the best solution for our needs and went above and beyond normal ‘customer service’ standards. I have absolutely no qualms recommending their products and services. Both were absolutely flawless. I will continue to sing them praises and will most definitely purchase from them again in the future. Thank you again!

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
