Carbonados, a type of rare diamond, are gaining popularity. Black diamonds are growing more popular, leading some to question their legitimacy. Just to be clear: mined or lab-grown colorless diamonds are “genuine.” They’re rare and hence pricey. Here are some things to take in mind while selecting a set of black diamond earrings.

WHY ARE BLACK DIAMONDS IMPORTANT?

Black diamonds, like everything else, have value. Carbonados are associated with the wealthy and powerful due to their rich color. Others say these dark stones bring success, stability, and inner power. Finally, black diamonds, like white diamonds, represent loyalty and romance.

Aside from their unique appearance, we feel black diamond engagement rings are gaining popularity due of what they signify.

WHAT MAKES BLACK DIAMONDS?

  1. The color of these black diamonds sets them apart from other diamond colors. Their color comes from graphite crystals and other significant flaws in the stone, which is likely their most noteworthy feature. Carbon, in the form of graphite, is the “lead” in pencils.
  2. To put it another way, natural black diamonds are a blend of two pure carbon forms. Carbos get their name from the way they look on the ground, like a lump of charcoal. Currently, the top two suppliers are Brazil and CAR.
  3. Due to the diamond’s capacity to absorb all visible light, black diamonds should appear opaque.

Color variation is common in huge black diamonds, which is undesirable. Your men’s black diamond wedding rings must have matching diamonds.

COLOR, CUT, AND CLARITY OF A BLACK DIAMOND

If you’ve ever graded white diamonds, you’re familiar with the four C’s.

Carat

Because black diamonds are less dense than white diamonds, they appear smaller, yet the carat weight is the same. For a “fuller” look, we recommend a ring with black and white diamonds.

Color

Next is color, and black stones are special here as well. Colorless diamonds are graded D-F, with the other grades being “near colorless.” For colored stones, the GIA uses and other well-known labs

Black diamonds are considered “fancy” and can be natural or heat-treated. The ideal color distribution of a black diamond is devoid of white spots.

Cut

Black diamonds, like all other diamonds, must be cut first. Black fancy diamonds come in a range of sizes and cuts, but the most popular are round brilliant and princess.

Brilliant cuts are utilized to maximize a diamond’s brightness. While carbonados have a characteristic shine, the cutter still seeks to maximize light reflection from the pavilion (top) facets. Princess cuts (square brilliants) are almost as popular as round brilliant cuts in black diamond engagement rings.

Other lovely shapes include oval, pear, marquise, and heart. Step cuts instead accentuate a stone’s clarity. Less facets, more lines. The emerald cut is perhaps the most famous step cut, meant to show off emeralds’ color.

Clarity

Most black diamonds are too opaque for gemological labs to evaluate. As long as their black color is well-defined, gemologists can see through them to check their facets. This study solely contains rare and expensive carbonados.

Since then, the jewelry industry has established a new grade for black diamonds: AAA is the best, and I1 is the worst. Carbonados with defects are less attractive than those with dark, consistent color, well-cut facets, and no obvious “streaks” in the stone.

The facets of a glossy black diamond ring are suitable for a glossy black diamond ring. There are two varieties of black diamonds: perfect and ones with flaws or that aren’t as dark as they should be. Clarity exclusively uses premium carbonados, so you can be sure of your purchase. However, our black diamonds have been heated.

TREATMENT WITH BLACK DIAMONDS

The color of black diamonds is typically improved by heat and pressure treatment. Most stones are treated to improve clarity, but not always. White diamonds are processed to make black diamonds. This can be done in three ways.

  1. Radiation treatment blackens gemstones by rearranging impurities and components.
  2. HTHP creates graphite within the crystal.
  3. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is employed to make the diamond unique.

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
