Buying a diamond engagement ring is an exciting time in your life. It’s even more exciting when you know that the diamond you’re buying is exactly what you want and that it’s going to be perfect for your future fiancé. Read on as we tell you how simple it is to buy certified diamonds online:
Step 1: Identify Your Budget
You might be surprised to learn that there are few rules when it comes to spending on engagement rings. You can spend as little or as much as you want, and a diamond is a timeless symbol that will last forever. The only caveat is: the bigger the diamond, the more expensive it will be.
There are several things to consider when determining your budget for a diamond engagement ring, including what type of setting you would like (e.g., solitaire or three stone), where you plan on purchasing your ring, and how much you are willing to pay for diamonds in general. If you’ve never bought an engagement ring before and don’t know if this will be your first purchase, then try thinking about what qualifies as “expensive” for other things in life—a house or car comes to mind—so that you have some sort of reference point in mind when choosing how much money would suitably fit within your budget while still getting everything else done with ease!
Step 2: Determine the Right Cut for You
The cut of a diamond is what determines how it sparkles. It plays a significant role in the stone’s beauty, value and durability. There are three main cuts that you can choose from: round, princess and emerald.
Round – This cut is shaped like a sphere, with a perfectly symmetrical outline and all corners aligned perfectly. The result is an eye-catching appearance that makes this style perfect for those who want their diamond to be the center of attention on the ring or necklace.
Princess – These stones have 58 facets on its crown (top) section with 57 facets in its pavilion (bottom). This design allows light to reflect off of each surface equally, making it appear brighter than other shapes like rounds or asschers (which also have faceting).
Emerald – These stones feature 58 facets on their crowns as well as 57 in their pavilions. Their unique shape results in more sparkle than emeralds due to extra reflection points created by steps between octagonal and square shapes within them
Step 3: Decide on a Shape
The shape of your diamond is one of the most important elements to consider when buying a certified diamond. There are four main shapes: round, princess, cushion and emerald.
Round diamonds are by far the most popular and have been for a long time. Round diamonds are generally considered to be timeless and classic. They come in many different sizes, so you can find one that fits your budget and still look great on your hand or around your neck!
Princess cuts are square cut with rounded corners (think of Cinderella’s castle if you’ve ever seen it). These stones shine brightly but also give off softer sparkles than some other shapes because of their soft edges—they’re perfect for those who prefer less flashiness in their jewelry but still want something elegant enough for special occasions like weddings or birthdays! Cushions are another square cut stone where both sides curve inward towards the center point; these tend towards looking very feminine while still retaining some sophistication with their rounded edges along each side (as opposed to sharp 90 degree angles), making them perfect for everyday wear without looking too plain or boring! Lastly we have emeralds which aren’t round like our previous three examples; instead they’re rectangular-cut with rounded corners so they don’t look exactly like rectangles either (which is why they got named after precious gemstones).
Step 4: Pick the Right Carat Weight
In this step, you’ll be able to choose the carat weight of your diamond. A diamond’s carat weight is measured in points, with 1 point being equal to 0.2 grams (or a little less than 0.008 ounces). As with any other type of purchase, buyers want to get the most bang for their buck, so it makes sense that they would want to buy only as much diamond as they can afford without sacrificing quality or beauty.
Step 5: Pick a Setting
The next step is to choose a setting. The most popular type of diamond setting is the prong, which has four or more thin metal prongs that hold and secure the diamond in place. Prongs can be set either vertically or horizontally around the stone and are most commonly seen in solitaires (uncut) diamonds and other fancy shapes like ovals, cushions and marquise diamonds. Diamonds can also be set in channel settings, an open-backed style with grooves on either side of the center stone to hold it securely in place; pave settings feature rows of smaller stones that surround a larger center stone; halo rings feature large stones surrounded by smaller ones; pavé or pave-set rings have rows of tiny diamonds running along their sides; bezel-topped rings have small pockets cut out from around their edges; claw settings feature claws which grip onto claws at each side of a diamond for security; and tension settings use pressure from compression forces to keep a rough stone securely in place during polishing processes.
Step 6: Pick a Metal for Your Ring Band
You’re almost there! Now that you know the difference between a diamond and a moissanite (or how to tell if it’s real or not), you can continue with your search.
You have three metal options: gold, platinum, palladium and silver. Gold is the most popular choice for engagement rings due to its classic look—it also stands up well against daily wear and tear. If you want something more modern-looking, try platinum; this metal is great for everyday use as well as special occasions. If you prefer something vintage-inspired but still understated, then palladium might be right for you—it won’t compete with your sparkling new diamond! Silver gives off an elegant look when combined with diamonds; however, it may be too subtle for some tastes since its shine does not compare to those of other metals like gold or platinum (though depending on what kind of setting you chose).
Step 7: Choose a Certificate
Now that you’ve chosen the diamond, it’s time to choose a certificate. The certificate is an assurance from a third-party authority that the diamond has been assessed for its authenticity, quality and conflict-free status. A reputable certificate will also provide information on color, clarity and cut grading; this will help you know exactly what you are getting before making your purchase.
Certificates can be issued by laboratories or gemological institutes and vary in price depending on their level of expertise and reputation within the industry. Certificates are not mandatory but they do provide confidence when purchasing diamonds online because they have been verified by an independent expert who has experience with grading diamonds accurately and consistentl
