Buying a diamond ring is a big step. This isn’t just something that you do on a whim or over the course of a weekend. This is an important decision that you need to research and understand before you go out and buy it.

If you’re planning to purchase a diamond ring for your special someone, you’re in the right place. Diamonds are expensive, so you’ll want to get the most out of your purchase. Rather than spending thousands of dollars on a stone and then having someone tell you it’s worth less than you thought, take a few simple steps to ensure you’re getting a great diamond ring deal.

Step 1: Check the Clarity

Clarity is the presence of natural inclusions. Inclusions are small imperfections inside and on the surface of a diamond. Inclusions can reduce a diamond’s brilliance, so they are ranked on their size, number, color and position.

The clarity scale includes grades such as Flawless, Internally Flawless, Very Very Slightly Included and Very Slightly Included. As you move down the scale, there are more imperfections that affect the stone’s clarity and value.

It’s important to note that most diamonds have some inclusions. These tiny flaws are often microscopic and don’t have any impact on the diamond’s appearance. In fact, in some cases, an inclusion can actually be used as a point of reference for grading purposes.

When looking at the stone, pay attention to any blemishes on its surface and inclusions within it. Remember that SI1 stones still may contain some visible imperfections.

Step 2: See The Diamond In Person

In the digital age, it can be tempting to buy just about everything online. But this is one area where you should visit a store in person. The reason: Diamonds are not all created equal. Some diamonds are quite visibly flawed, while others appear flawless to the naked eye. Unless you have a trained eye or the money to spend on a very high-quality diamond, it’s best to see the stone in person before making your purchase.

After finding a diamond you like, ask for the diamond’s grading report. This document should tell you if (and how) there are flaws present in the diamond.

If you can’t make it into a store to look at diamonds in person, be sure to only buy from reputable online vendors with good return policies.

Section: STEP 3: Make Sure You’re Getting a Good Deal

The key to finding the right diamond engagement ring is to do your research. You don’t have to be as educated as a gemologist, but there are several important factors that can help you evaluate a diamond and make sure you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Diamonds are graded using the 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity and carat weight — which determine their price. The higher the grade in each category, the more valuable the stone becomes.

However, some of these factors have a greater effect on price than others. For example, while a larger carat weight means a more valuable diamond (up to a point), you’re likely to get more value from a diamond with excellent cut and clarity grades rather than one with higher carat weight but lower grades in other areas.

Nissan, David and his team were extremely accommodating, understanding and patient with our purchase. They took the upmost care to find the best solution for our needs and went above and beyond normal ‘customer service’ standards. I have absolutely no qualms recommending their products and services. Both were absolutely flawless. I will continue to sing them praises and will most definitely purchase from them again in the future. Thank you again!

Bought a beautiful stone here for an engagement ring. I was a little apprehensive since you’re buying something unseen. But Cid made it easy. In fact, Nissan, the owner also gave a call to make me more comfortable. They sent me the stone to take to a local jeweler with only my Amex in case I bailed on them.
