Aber Changes Name to Harry Winston
Summer 2007
Aber Diamond Corp. is changing its name to Harry Winston Diamond Corp. to attract wider name recognition and to reflect the company’s wider focus on both retailing and mining.
The company, which owns a 40-percent stake in the Diavik diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories, bought full ownership of famed jeweler last year.
Aber also announced promising results for the first quarter. While net earnings fell, revenue rose to $141 million from $119 million, on 19 percent growth in mining sales and a 17 percent increase in retail. Its share of production from Diavik, meanwhile, was 1.03 million carats in the quarter, up from 715,000 carats in same quarter in the prior year.
