Strong results at Rio Tinto diamonds 2014
Rio Tinto Diamonds was happy to announce that its first rough tender for 2014 delivered strong results amidst high participation and a record number of successful bidders. Forty-four companies successful bid on lots in the auction. The 124 lot auction featured fancy color and colorless rough diamonds from the Diavik, Murowa and Argyle mines.
The 70 carat white diamond from the Diavik mine was the most valuable diamonds presented at the tender. Rio Tinto claimed there was unprecedented bidding for the wide variety of fancy colored rough diamonds from all three Rio Tinto mines. Amongst the fancy color diamonds were yellow, champagne, cognac, pink and purple stones.
General Sales Manager Patrick Coppens said: “We were delighted with the bidding, the global nature of the successful bidders and the final result. It speaks to the strong demand for our diverse diamond portfolio.”
