46 carat diamond necklace Eye of Golconda top lot at Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Auction

Eye of golconda diamond necklaceChristie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction will be held on the 27th of May and feature a diamond necklace with two Golconda diamonds as the top lot. The diamond and emerald necklace is named “The Eye of Golconda” and features a 6.76 carat Cushion Cut diamond and an amazing 40.05 carat Pear Shape diamond. Both of these diamonds have been certified as D color with internally flawless clarity by the GIA. The Pear Cut is the centerpiece of the necklace and is the largest Golconda diamond ever available for auction in Asia. The jewelry piece has a pre-auction estimate of $8.5 - $10 million.

The mines in the Golconda region of India have produced some of the world’s most famous diamonds including the Koh-i-Noor, Nur-Ul-Ain, Darya-e Nur, and the mysterious Hope Diamond. According to the auction house, Golconda diamonds have “an almost indefinable water-clear appearance and a degree of transparency rarely seen in stones from other localities.”

The auction will have more than 300 lots with a combined value of more than $100 million, including a variety of rare colored diamonds, colorless diamonds, Burmese rubies and sapphires, Colombian emeralds and jadeite jewels. The auction will feature a few diamonds and precious stones that have already sent thrills of excitement throughout the industry.

To mention a few:

  • Two loose diamonds of 26.08 and 26.20 D color Flawless Brilliant Cut, with excellent grade on polish, symmetry and cut grade. Each diamond is estimated at $4 - $6.5 million.

  • A 9.38 carat Pear Shape fancy intense pink diamond, mounted on a ring with two pear shape shoulder stones. Estimated at $5.8 - $8.3 million.

  • The top lot in the jadeite category is a bangle with the perfect balance between ideal color, texture and translucency and is estimated at $3.8 - $6.5 million.
