The largest emerald cut diamond that has traveled the world to show its beauty has been sold in Geneva for £25.5m. The flawless diamond described as the most beautiful diamond in the world was the highlight of Christie’s auction among many other exceptional diamond jewelry items.
The gem that is now 163.41-carat was cut from a 404.20-carat rough diamond that was mined on 4 February last year. The diamond is not only large it is also graded the highest color in the diamond industry D and flawless. Before going under the hammer in Geneva, the diamond toured to Hong Kong, London, Dubai and New York. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) found the IIa type diamond a variety highly valued for its transparency and color.
While experts estimated that the guide price of this diamond will at most fetch £23m the hammer dropped 2 million higher than expected. The necklace its highlight is the emerald cut diamond yet the necklace is made more unique by the two rows of pear-shaped emeralds, together with a shagreen and diamond-set bangle.
