Meet the 8.01 blue diamond necklace that was the top seller of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
The necklace holds great value due to the rare 8.01 pear-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond that is internally flawless. A buyer made the necklace its own by bidding $2.6 million per carat, making it a total of just under $20.5 million. Experts estimated the necklace to fetch between $18.5 million to $24.9 million.
More highlights of that evening
A colored diamond bracelet, that set a world auction record for its category as it smashed its pre-sale maximum of $3.2 by fetching $4.5 million. In addition, a jadeite necklace featuring 1.50 and 3.02-carat oval diamonds was sold for $4.3 million.
The colored diamond bracelet was not the only world auction record that was set that evening as a pair of pear-shaped Paraiba tourmaline ear pendants were sold for $2.8 million.
According to Christie’s the Magnificent Jewels auction in Hong Kong sold 64% of its items that resulted in a total of $72.1 million. For more results, click here.
