While a day earlier Christie’s had set the record price-per-carat for blue diamonds in this category, auction house Sotheby’s took the record by selling a 3.47 carat fancy intense blue diamond for $6.66 million. A diamond price that smashed the estimations of experts as the estimated price was set around $2.5 million.
The cut cornered rectangular fancy intense step cut diamond is now the new auction record for any fancy intense blue diamonds price-per-carat. With a selling price of $6.66 million, the price-per-carat is more than $1.9 million.
At the auction 137 lots were sold that resulted in a total fetched price of $26.1 million. The blue diamond was top lot while followed by:
A bracelet filled with alternating cut cornered rectangular modified diamonds and emerald cut diamonds.
Total weight of the bracelet is 72.96 carats. Sold for nearly $1.4 million.
An D color, VS1 emerald cut diamond weighing 13.70 carats.
