De Beers may have given up its overall monopoly of the industry, but it seems to want to increase its presence in the better goods.
De Beers outgoing managing director Gary Ralfe noted that De Beers is looking to increase the quality of stones that it produces, as part of “Chapter Two” of its reinvention plan.
Meanwhile, we notice that the De Beers stores are now advertising larger stones in their ads. De Beers has denied an association between the stores and their mines, but big stones are very tight these days, and this bears closer watching.
