The Round Brilliant Cut fits all jewelry pieces

This cut has been the most popular diamond shape for years. It accounts for more than three-quarters of all diamonds sold today and around 70% of all rough diamonds are cut into this shape. This is because no matter which carat size, a Round Brilliant Cut always has an excellent light performance. It is a shape that will look beautiful in all types of jewelry pieces. Whether as a solitaire in an engagement ring, as shoulder stones, or set in a pair of earrings, Round Brilliant Cut diamonds will always outshine any other shape and will never go out of style.

In Search of the Ideal Cut Diamond

Round Cut Diamond Sketch Cutting the diamond perfectly is what makes a diamond sparkle so brightly. For hundreds of years, diamond cutters have studied the behavior of light as it passes through the stone, to determine how to create a beautiful light performance that perfectly balances brilliance, fire, and scintillation. Today’s modern 58-facet Round Brilliant Cut is the only shape to have the perfect proportions defined (in 1919 by Tolkowsky) and has set the standard for all other shapes.

The Hearts and Arrows Cut

One cutting technique that achieves the highest degree of excellence is called the Hearts and Arrows Cut. Diamonds with this cut display a pattern that resembles 8 hearts when looking at the pavilion and 8 arrows when looking at the stone in the face-up position. This pattern is only visible when the table facet is exactly perpendicular to the pavilion and the other facets are aligned with exact symmetry. The Hearts and Arrows pattern is not necessarily synonymous to optimum light performance. Optimal facet placement and proportion are more important for creating fire and brilliance rather than facet patterning.
