The Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Ark., was the site of a major find recently, when a Wisconsin man went prospecting and found a 3.92-carat stone.
More than 700 stones have been found at the park this year.
Eric Blake, 32, of Appleton, Wis., told reporters that he spotted the stone along a trail at the Crater of Diamonds State Park when he set down a 70-pound bucket of mud.
“I put the bucket down to switch hands. I looked down and there it was,” Blake said.
Blake found a 1.49-carat stone two days earlier. The larger one is big enough to fashion into jewelry but Blake hasn’t decided whether he will have it placed into a setting.
The largest stone ever at the Park in Murfreesboro found there was the 40-carat Uncle Sam. It is the only park that is available for public diamond prospecting.
