Christie’s Hong Kong Sale of Magnificent Jewels on the 27th of May 2014 achieved a total of $91.9 million and was 81% sold by lot. Despite the near triple digit amount, it fell short the presale estimate of exceeding $100. Possibly because one of the top lots, the beautiful Golconda Diamond necklace named “Eye of Golconda,” remained unsold during the evening.
The auction house still achieved setting a world record for an intense green diamond when a 6.13 carat, VS2, Fancy intense green Cushion Shape diamond ring achieved $3.6 million. Other colorless and colored diamonds as well as gemstones, natural pearls, and jadeite also achieved top prices from bidders.
The top lot of the sale was a beautiful pair of 25.49 and 25.31 carat, type IIa, D color diamond ear pendants which sold for $9.7 million to an Asian private buyer. A stunning 9.38 carat Pear Shape fancy intense pink diamond ring was the second top lot achieving $5.96 million. A jadeite bangle reached $5.2 million, and another high achiever was a 26.20-carat, type IIa, D color, flawless, Brilliant Cut diamond fetching $4.95 million.
