The GIA To Offer Reports for Synthetics in Yellow Color

The GIA’s grading lab will begin issuing synthetic diamond grading reports.
GIA's new synthetic diamond reports will provide a clear description of the stone, containing color, clarity, carat weight and cut information when applicable. The design of the report will be different from the current GIA Diamond Grading Reports for natural diamonds, including a different color (yellow).

This is not the first time this has happened — many years, when the Diamond Registry cut one of the first synthetic diamonds for Sumotomo, the GIA issued a synthetic diamond report. Now, however, the reports will have a different color to make them stand out.

"GIA is a public benefit institution and, as such, has an official obligation to protect the public by providing the critical information needed to make informed decisions," GIA Chairman Ralph Destino said in a statement. "As a nonprofit entity serving the public trust, it is simply the right thing to do."

Tom Moses, senior vice president of GIA Laboratory and Research, said that by issuing reports, GIA will see more of the stones and therefore can better report on them.
