Brazil’s Jewelry Exports Soar
Summer 2006
After years of falling distantly behind fashion jewelry powerhouses like Italy, exports from Brazil's jewelry industry are finally making its mark around the world.
Exports expected to reach $1 billion in 2006, according to Natália Salomão, marketing and communications manager of the IBGM. Those exports include uncut and cut gems, including diamonds.
In the first four months of 2006 jewelry exports came in at $335 million, up 41 percent from the year before.
Brazil has been on the move since 1999 to increase exports. The country’s designers and manufacturers have increasingly been participating in international trades fairs and advertising.
