Indictment Comes in Nektalov Murder; Police Still Don’t Know Motive -
May.2005
A Bronx man, Carlos Fortier, 36, had been indicted for second-degree murder
in the May 21 shooting of diamond merchant Eduard Nektalov. Investigators have
said they believe that he was the hit man hired to kill Nektalov, but still don’t
know why.
The shooting made headlines because it occurred at 6PM on a busy sidewalk
right adjacent to 47th Street.
Fortier has a long arrest record dating back to 1987, investigators said. He
has pled not guilty to the crime. v
