The “Victory Diamond” of 31.34 carat fetched superb diamond price per carat
Christie’s New York broke several records with their sparkling diamond lots
On December 10, Christie’s Magnificent Jewelry auction was finally here, having the “Victory Diamond” as the top lot of the auction since it broke the record for highest diamond price per carat. Not only the “Victory Diamond” broke the records at the auction in New York, some other heavy hitting results of diamonds were established. In total the diamond auction reached more than 56 million USD in sales with thanks to a dozen of diamonds that pushed the total sale price since they were sold for more than millions of dollars.
The “Victory Diamond” ring is a D color rectangular cut diamond of 31.34 carats. D color is the highest possible valuation for diamond color, meaning that the diamond is colorless. In addition, the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) noted this diamond as a “chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond”. The total price of this rectangular cut diamond is $4,309,000 USD which is averaging about $137,500 per carat!
Next to the top seller lot, there was a D color 43.79-carat diamond which is set in a diamond ring. The diamond is a cushion cut diamond and has been sold for more than $4 million USD. In addition, a 103.66 carat diamond pendant necklace was sold for almost 4 million USD. But the 28.28 carat diamond broke the record by being the largest purchase of a gemstone sold by an online bidder.
