Royal brooch filled with diamonds is up for auction
More than 350 lots of sparkling jewelry with colored diamonds and other gemstones ready to be sold in Geneva
The diamond brooch that was given by the Spanish king Alfonso XII to his wife Maria Christina of Austria is up for auction next week in Geneva. It is one of the main highlights of the auction which contains more than 350 pieces of sparkling jewelry with diamonds and other gemstones. The royal brooch stayed in Maria Christina’s family from her death in 1929 until the 1980s. The brooch is filled with colorless diamonds in round shapes, cushion shapes and oval shapes. According to a jewelry specialist this brooch is very unique due to its provenance, royal provenance. In addition, the brooch is a very typical period jewelry, worn as corsages back then. The occasion when brooches like this were worn in this period of time was mostly for weddings or because the wearer was from a royal family. This diamond brooch is estimated to be sold for at least 1.5 million up to 2 million USD in Geneva.
