Giant rough pink diamond found & up for auction!
“The Williamson” 23.16 carat rough pink colored diamond is on its way to Antwerp to be sold
While the 1,111 carat rough colorless diamond can still not be valued due to its large size a giant rough pink diamond is found and up for auction. Colored diamonds are compared to colorless diamonds a lot more rare to find. Therefore this 23.16 carat rough pink colored diamond is a very unusual finding. The pink diamond is found in the Williamson mine located at Tanzania, explaining the name “The Williamson Pink”.
In the Williamson mine, this pink diamond is not the first one to be found. However this is the first time the mine enjoyed this large size and characteristics. According to the marketing manager of the company that found the diamond, Greg Stephenson, the tone and saturation of the rough diamond is exquisite. The color is pure pink, which can refer to carnation pink. The diamond has no moderating colors, which makes the diamond more rare. For pink diamonds you can have secondary colors as purple or grey but this 23.16-carat diamond is pure pink. In addition, the structure of the rough diamond can lead to a large polished diamond instead of being cleaved or cut into several smaller stones. Resulting in a particularly rare pink rough diamond.
“The Williamson” will be auctioned in Antwerp on December 11. The owner will have the option to name the pink diamond. Which name would you give this pink colored diamond?
