Egyptian royal diamond necklace up for auction
A 217-carat bib style diamond necklace, with all kinds of diamond shapes at Sotheby’s Auction
On December 9 Sotheby will have its final fall season of “Magnificent Jewels” auction in New York where an Egyptian royal diamond necklace is one of the top lots. The 217-carat bib style diamond necklace, which contains all kinds of diamond shapes, belonged to Queen Nazli of Egypt – mother of Egypt’s King Farouk. This historic diamond necklace is estimated to be sold for $3.6- $4.6 million USD. This sale of the Queen Nazli’s diamond necklace is for historian jewelry lovers an exciting moment. For some it is even a miracle since the some assumed that the diamond necklace was destroyed a long time ago. And yet, the diamond necklace is perfectly intact and ready for auction.
The diamond necklace, which was created at the end of 1930s, is platinum and a real eye catcher due to the amount of loose diamond, which are mounted in this necklace. The necklace has a number of round diamonds and banquette shaped diamonds, which creates a unique effect . The matching tiara is also full with diamonds and the two royal diamond jewelry pieces were created to appear at the grandest ceremony that ever happened in Egypt since the time of the pharaohs, the wedding of Queen Nazli’s eldest daughter.
Next to this amazing diamond lot, Sotheby is auctioning a platinum diamond ring with a square emerald cut diamond of 38.27 carat of color grade D and VVS2 clarity. In addition, a platinum fancy pink diamond ring which is cut into a pear shape of 6.93 carat.
