Diamond jewelry auction fetches $8.6 million benefiting Animal Rescue
The diamond jewelry collection of Riki and Jerome Shaw reached more than $8.6 million with all proceeds going toward animal shelters as part of the fight against animal cruelty. The private collection was led by a 6 carat fancy intense pink diamond ring, which sold for more than $5.7 million. The ring was one of two jewelry pieces from the collection that were among the top 10 lots sold during Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels Sale. The other jewelry item was a 6.25 carat Burmese Ruby and diamond ring that sold for more than $1.3 million.
The top item of the evening was a beautiful pair of circular cut D color Flawless diamonds of 22.60 and 22.31 carats that sold for more than $8.5 million. Followed closely by an Oval Cut D color Flawless 40.43 carat diamond that sold for more than $7.6 million. Two other notable items from another private collection were the 20.10 carat rectangular cut D color VVS1 diamond that sold for more than $2.4 million; and a 42.88 carat rectangular cut emerald and diamond brooch that sold for more than $1.3 million.
