Amazing 8.41 carat purple pink diamond is expected to fetch $15 million

The upcoming Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale will feature a beautifully dazzling 8.41 carat Pear Shape Internally Flawless fancy vivid purple pink diamond as the top lot. Expectations are high for this pink loose diamond as the expected price it will fetch is between $12.8 and $15.4 million at Sotheby’s auction on October 7.

The appearance of this pink diamond has piqued the interest of many loose diamond buyers from all over the world. That is because an internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond of more than 8 carat is virtually unseen and a true spectacle to behold. Chairman of International Jewelry Asia Quek Chin Yeow said “This color is one of the most beautiful and concentrated shades of pink in diamonds that I have seen and, combined with the exceptional clarity, it is not surprising that it would command the highest per-carat pre-sale estimate for any pink diamond to date.”

This pink loose diamond was cut from a 19.54 carat rough diamond, originating from a De Beers mine and cut in New York. Prior to the auction it will tour Singapore, Taipei, New York, London, Geneva and Hong Kong. The Graff Pink diamond holds the record for the highest price ever paid at an auction for a diamond. The 24.76 carat fancy intense pink diamond was purchased in November 2010 for more than $46.1 million. The record price per carat for a fancy vivid pink diamond is more than $2.1 million per carat. A record set by the 5 carat diamond sold in Hong Kong January 2009 for more than a staggering $10.7 million.

Pink is one of the rarest and most desirable colors, often associated with roses and natural sea coral. The color evokes a strong romance, which is why it is a popular choice for engagement rings. The biggest pink diamond ever found, the Daria-I-Noor, has somewhat of an elusive reputation. Its precise whereabouts is unknown today, and its carat weight is estimated at 182 carats.
