Amazing 101.3 carat diamond sells for $5 Million at Christie’s Jewelry auction

Flawless 101.3 carat diamond cushion cutMost of the record-breaking diamond prices reached during recent auctions, were achieved by fancy color diamond that went under the hammer. Yet it appears that colorless diamonds are making a comeback with the 101.3 carat diamond to lead the way. From the top 10 lots at Christie’s Important Jewels auction, 7 featured colorless diamonds with 5 of those diamonds selling for more than $1 million. The cushion cut 101.3 carat diamond, L color VS2, sold for $4.98 million or $49,100 per carat. Suspended by a black silk cord with pave-set diamonds, the 101.3 carat diamond makes for an elegant and stunning necklace.

The total sale of 347 lots achieved $33.7 million, with 77% sold by value and 75% sold by lot. The International Head of Christie’s Jewelry said that fine quality colorless diamonds achieved very strong diamond prices through international bidding. Such as the diamond necklace featuring a Faint Brown 81.3 carat diamond pendant, K color grade VVS1 that sold for $3.19 million. The necklaces features two other detachable loose diamonds weighing 15.3 carat and 7 carat and is spaced by circular cut diamonds. Of the 17 circular cut diamonds, the largest weighs 15.4 carat.

Other top lots were the 23.9 carat rectangular H color, Internally Flawless diamond mounted in platinum ring that sold for $1.56 million, or $65.500 per carat. A 16.07 carat rectangular cut F color, Internally Flawless diamond set with circular and pear shaped diamonds onto a diamond ring, that sold for $93,700 per carat with the total coming in at $1.5 million.
