Analysis:

This chart shows there is no significant change in production of the gem quality diamonds in the last year. The preliminary results for 2006 show a decline on total gem production, but we don’t see any noticeable decline in supply. The countries that declined, like Australia, mostly produce low quality goods. However, industrial diamond production is down, but those diamonds are competing against synthetics, which are easily produced, so it is likely there was no impact on that market.
