De Beers Gets U.S. Office
October 2006
De Beers is opening its first U.S. office in New York, reports say.
According to reports, the office will be "non-commercial" and not involved with advertising.
Rosalind Kainyah, a lawyer from Ghana, said the office will be not be a traditional one and her goals include outreach to government and civil society
The company also hired Chris Sorek, from software giant SAP, to join the company as the head of group public and corporate affairs. David Prager will head De Beers' media relations and communication from pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. Both men report to Stephen Lussier, director of external and corporate affairs.
The office, apparently, will polish De Beers’ image, not its diamonds.
