Lack of Diamonds Collapses Leviev's Canadian Deal
March 2005
A lack of diamonds prompted Lev Leviev’s pullout on a deal to buy the Sirius Diamond cutting and polishing plant from the Canadian government.
The Northwest Territories, which forced Sirius into receivership last summer, has lost $3 million.
Leviev apparently could not establish a deal with Canadian mines for rough.
According to CBC News, Diavik spokesman Tom Hoefer would not say why the mine would not strike a deal with Leviev.
