Diamond Chandeliers, Right Hand Rings for 2005
February 2005
To discern fashion trends, forecasters are increasingly turning to Hollywood celebrities for guidance. Jewelers are now following their lead and predicting diamond jewelry trends for the year based, largely, on who is wearing what on the red carpet.
According to the recent “Diamonds 2005 Award Season” report by the Diamond Trading Company’s Diamond Information Center those trends won’t be changing much in 2005, compared to 2004.
Diamond chandelier earrings and the Right Hand Ring are among the top trends that the DIC is predicting to remain strong through the coming year. Chandeliers, especially featuring briolette diamonds, have been around for several years now.
Other predicted trends for 2005 award season are the diamond brooch, diamond linear earrings, diamond chains, the Right Hand Ring, and diamonds worn in the hair.
Many of these trends focus on diamond pave, rather than larger cut stones. These signify a shift, as jewelers aim to lower the price of diamond jewelry to entice women to buy their own jewelry as fashion accessories. “Diamonds 2005: Award Season,” includes a section on how to turn a runway sighting—for example $48,000 right hand ring seen on the red carpet—into a reality—an $1,185 version of the Right Hand Ring available to women everywhere.
The Diamond Trading Company also outlines the world’s top 10 “Diamond Girls”, those actresses whose signature styles and popularity make them ones to watch for diamond jewelry trend setting. They are: Nicole Kidman, Gweneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Rennee Zellwegger, Halle Berry, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sharon Stone, and Demi Moore. Up-and-comers are Scarlett Johansson, and Keira Knightly.
