Christies Has Best Jewelry Auction in London Since 1997 - Dec.2004
Christie’s Important Jewels Auction in London on November 24 reached $8.6
million, 84% sold by lot, 88% by value. This is the highest total for an autumn
jewelry auction since 1997.
Among the highlights:
- An 8.66-carat rectangular cut light blue-green diamond ring, circa 1910,
fetched $721,914, or $84,000 a carat, way above its estimate. One diamond dealer
said she had only seen one other stone of this color in 40 years of dealing.
- A diamond necklace by Cartier, circa 1940, fetched $365, 866.
- A 5.22 carat D-internally flawless diamond fetched $166,898, or $32,000 per
