Sotheby's Plans Spring Auction
March 2002
While the major auction houses have scheduled their large spring fine jewelry auctions, Sotheby’s has gone a step further and announced that their April sale will include a collection expected to be one of the top 15 ever auctioned.
On April 24 and 25, Sotheby’s New York will auction Magnificent Jewels from the Estate of Janice H. Levin.
The collection includes important diamonds like a 37.25-carat marquise-shaped diamond ring. The D color VVS1 clarity stone is expected to sell for about $1.5 million. A rare pair of pear-shaped diamond pendants--22.04 and 22.11 carats, D color, VS1 clarity--by Van Cleef & Arpels is expected fetch as much as two million; and a Harry Winston diamond cluster necklace is estimated to be sold for about $1 million.
Rival auction house Christie’s will hold its Magnificent Jewels sale on April 9.
